Leepa Valley is a forested valley in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, reached over Reshian Gali from Muzaffarabad, with terraced fields and villages close to the Line of Control. This Leepa Valley guide covers the route, the season and, importantly, the security considerations.
Quick answer: what is Leepa Valley?
Leepa is a valley of terraced rice fields and pine forest, reached by a mountain road over Reshian Gali, at around 3,200 m, and down to the valley floor. Distances from Muzaffarabad are given as roughly 80 to 105 km depending on source and route. Because Leepa lies very close to the Line of Control, security conditions matter more here than almost anywhere else in this region.

Places to visit
- Reshian Gali for high-altitude views.
- Dao Khan and village lanes on the descent.
- Rice terraces and pine forest in the valley.
Security and permissions
Official tourism listings say the valley is open to domestic tourists only, roughly from May to November. Foreign visitors should assume Leepa is not open to them unless an official source or the local authorities confirm otherwise, and everyone should check the current access and NOC position at Hattian Bala before heading for Reshian.

- Drive the mountain road, if open to visitors.
- Walk village lanes and terraced fields.
Where to stay and eat
Lodging is basic. Carry food and water and confirm accommodation in advance.
