The easiest family days out in Lahore are Greater Iqbal Park with Minar-e-Pakistan, the Lahore Zoo, Jallo Wildlife Park, the Lahore Museum and an evening on a food street. Most are open-air and cheap, so they suit children, grandparents and a mixed-age group.
This guide groups the options by age and energy level and suggests how to put a day together. Last checked: October 2026. Opening hours, ticket prices and event schedules change, and some attractions have been renovated or paused, so confirm before you go.
Quick answer: best things to do in Lahore with family
- Best all-rounder: Greater Iqbal Park, with a lake, fountain, play areas, a soft rail track and Minar-e-Pakistan.
- Best for young children: Lahore Zoo and Jallo Wildlife Park.
- Best for older children and teens: Lahore Fort, Badshahi Mosque and the Lahore Museum.
- Best evening: a food street meal, or the Wagah border ceremony if it is running.
Greater Iqbal Park and Minar-e-Pakistan
Greater Iqbal Park sits on the edge of the Walled City. The park has a lake of about four acres with a musical fountain, a two-kilometre soft rail track, a boating lake, a children’s play area, walking trails, horse-drawn carriage rides and a food court. The National History Museum, opened in 2018, is also inside. Opening hours are 6:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Azadi Chowk Metrobus Station is the nearest public transit.
Read our Minar-e-Pakistan guide for the monument itself. Reported park size varies, so treat it as large rather than exact.
Allow: two to three hours, ideally in the late afternoon.
Lahore Zoo
Lahore Zoo opened in 1872 on Mall Road and covers about 25 acres. It holds roughly 1,400 animals of about 140 species, with a lion house, a reptile house, a waterfowl lake and a banyan tree said to be over 400 years old. Kiddy rides, a camel ride and picnic areas are also listed.
The zoo closed temporarily in November 2023 for renovations. A January 2026 Pakistan Observer report gave ticket prices of Rs 100 for adults and children and announced extended hours with evening activities from February 2026, but we could not confirm that the extension started. Check the official website or call before you go.
Allow: two to three hours.
Jallo Wildlife Park
Jallo Wildlife Park is on Lahore’s outskirts at Jallo Pind, about 28 km from the railway station and bus stand. It covers 837 acres of reserve forest, with enclosures for monkeys and other animals, a bear moat, a snake house, bird aviaries, a museum and a drive-in zoo. The department lists hours as 8:00 am to sunset and entry as free, though this should be confirmed.
It is a better choice than the city zoo if you have a car and want more space for children to run around.
Allow: half a day, including the drive.
Lahore Museum
The Lahore Museum has been at its current building on The Mall since 1894, and was first set up in 1865. Its most famous object is the Fasting Buddha from the Gandhara period. It suits older children who enjoy history. Hours and ticket prices change, so check the museum website before visiting. See our list of top museums in Pakistan for more.
Allow: about two hours.
Lahore Fort, Badshahi Mosque and the Walled City
For a half day of heritage, combine the fort and mosque. Our Lahore Fort visit guide covers tickets and timing, and the Badshahi Mosque and Shahi Qila guide adds the history. Two other sites worth a family visit are Shalamar Gardens and Wazir Khan Mosque. Walled City lanes are crowded, so keep young children close and avoid midday heat.
Allow: three to four hours.
Wagah border ceremony
The flag-lowering ceremony is held every evening just before sunset. It was paused on 8 May 2025 and resumed in a limited form on 20 May 2025, without the usual handshakes. Because arrangements have changed before, ask your hotel or a local operator whether it is open to the public and where tickets or passes are needed.
Food streets and dining
Evening meals are a highlight in Lahore. Our Lahore food streets guide and best restaurants in Lahore list family options. Choose a restaurant with seating for a large group if you have children or elders.
