Things to Do in Naran Kaghan with Family: Lakes, Rivers and Easy Day Trips

Family-friendly things to do in Naran Kaghan, from Saif-ul-Mulook and Lulusar to Shogran, with tips on season and roads.

In This Guide14 sections

Naran Kaghan suits families who visit in summer and keep the days short. The easiest things to do in Naran Kaghan with family are Saif-ul-Mulook Lake by jeep, the Kunhar riverside at Naran, and a day out to Lulusar Lake. Shogran and Siri Paye add a calmer plateau option, while Babusar Top and the lake treks are better for older children and teenagers.

This guide sorts the valley’s attractions by how easy they are with children and elders, and suggests a pacing plan. Last checked: October 2026. Road status, jeep rates and hotel prices change, so confirm locally.

Quick answer: best things to do in Naran Kaghan with family

  • Best day out: Saif-ul-Mulook Lake, about 9 km from Naran by jeep, with a short walk and boating.
  • Best scenic drive: Naran to Lulusar Lake, about 48 to 50 km, with no trek.
  • Calmer base: Shogran and the Siri Paye meadows, away from Naran’s crowds.
  • Season: May to the end of September is the open season, with winter snow and glaciers blocking roads.

Saif-ul-Mulook Lake

This is the family favourite. Most visitors take a private jeep from Naran and walk the last section. Our lake guide reports a private round trip at about PKR 3,000 to 7,000, so agree the price before you leave. The lake is at about 3,200 m, so it is noticeably cooler and the air is thinner than in Naran. Boating is available, and the walk around the shore is short. Go in the morning, before the afternoon crowds and weather.

Good for: all ages, apart from very young babies at altitude.

Naran and the Kunhar River

Naran is the valley’s main base. The Kunhar River rises at Lulusar Lake and flows the full length of the valley past Jalkhad, Naran, Jared and Paras. Evenings by the river and a walk through the bazaar are simple, low effort family activities after a day of driving. Keep children away from fast flowing water.

Lulusar Lake and the Babusar road

Lulusar is the largest lake in the valley and needs no trek. Our guide puts the drive at around 1.5 to 2 hours from Naran in good conditions. It makes a comfortable half day, with room to picnic. Babusar Top sits at about 4,173 m and is usually open only in summer, so the steep, rough road and thin air are better suited to older children. Check road status first.

Shogran and Siri Paye

Shogran is a lower, greener plateau reached before Naran, with pine forest and meadows. Our Shogran Valley guide covers the route and the Siri Paye meadows. It is a gentler option for families who want cool air without the Naran crowds.

Hikes and treks with older children

Dudipatsar and Ansoo are long summer treks that need a guide and an overnight stay, and they are not realistic for young children. Our hiking guide to Naran and Kaghan and lakes in Naran Kaghan compare them.
